Luminance
(cd/m) measurement: The luminances of 9 points on the lighting area
are measured and averaged. Illuminance (lm/m) is obtained by multiplying
3.14 to luminance. Uniformity is obtained by dividing minimum luminance
by maximum luminance from 9 point measurements.

Installation
Where
tiles should & should not be installed
Best:
Locations that receive some direct sunlight everyday
Okay:
Locations that are fully shaded, but that receive a lot of indirect
sunlight
Not
Recommended: Do not install tile in a location that does
not get adequate sunlight. If in doubt temporarily place the tile
in the questionable location for a trial run to see if it will charge
enough during the day to operate for the desired portion of the
night.
Installation
Methods
- As
a Paving Brick: Simple set-up, similar to standard paving bricks
in both mortarless and mortared installation. Expansion lugs on
each side of surface protect the tiles from abrasion and pressure
caused by temperature shifts, or other environmental factors.
- As
a Permanent Part of a Structure — with or without mortar
or adhesive. The tiles can be permanently built into any structure,
such as a wall, the side of a house or a building, or as part
of the concrete deck surrounding a built in swimming pool, since
they require no maintenance other than wiping the dust or dirt
away from them periodically. The tiles can be securely mounted
into place, using mortar or a heavy duty adhesive, or they can
simply be held in place by the construction techniques used in
the structure.
Decorative
outdoor light-emitting paver tiles
SolarCap
decorative outdoor light-emitting tiles have two solar panels and
the Light Emitting Diode (LED) diffuser. These solar cells absorb
energy from the sun during the day and charge up the cell’s
energy storage device. After the sun goes down, a light sensor turns
the tile’s LED lamps on, providing a soft inviting glow until
dawn, when the light sensor turns off the lamps. The tiles work
best when installed where they will receive some direct sunlight
every day. However, the tiles should absorb enough of the sun’s
energy to operate all night long, even on cloudy or rainy days,
or if the installation location gets no direct sunlight, as long
as it get sufficient indirect sunlight.
The
SolarCap Lighting system consists of modular, self-contained lighting
devices that can be used for decorative or traffic flow purposes
— powered only by solar energy. These unique devices incorporate
the newest “EnergyCache” technology for energy storage,
instead of the high maintenance rechargeable batteries that are
currently used in solar devices. Unlike batteries which must be
changed every two to three years and cannot tolerate environmental
extremes, EnergyCaches enable SolarCap Lighting to be used in any
environment without maintenance for more than 10 years with a wide
operating temperature range of –13° F – 140°
F (-25° C – 60° C).
Key
Features
- Powered
by the Sun. No wiring and no electric outlet required
- LED-based
Solid State Lighting in six colors: Amber, Blue, Green, Orange,
Red and White
- No
Maintenance. Lasts more than 10 years with less than 20% performance
degradation in charging efficiency,
- luminance
level, and lighting time over a 10 year period
- Stays
illuminated all night (up to 12 hours) with full charge
- Quick
Recharge. One to eight hours to fully charge (eight hours at daily
average 10,000 lux to full charge)
- Super-strong
plastic housing with high compressive strength. Can be driven
on by non-commercial vehicles (passenger cars, SUV’s, pick-up
trucks) without damage
- Tolerates
environmental extremes. Wide operating temperature range, completely
waterproof, UV protected and scratch resistant
- Automatic
on / off at ambient illuminant level of 150 – 350 lux
- Expansion
lugs. Two lugs on each side surface prevent direct contact with
adjacent bricks to protect the tiles from expansion and shrinkage
caused by temperature changes
- Security
flange (optional). Prevents theft, vandalism or unwanted removal
Lighting
Operation, Design Flexibility and Applications
Lighting
Operation
During
daylight hours, the tiles use solar cells to capture energy from
the sum that is then converted to electricity and stored using SolarCap’s
EnergyCaches to automatically turn on soft light emitting diode
(LED) lighting in the evening. Full charge takes about one hour
under direct sunlight and up to eight hours in shady or indirect
lighting condition. The light will stay on for up to 12 hours with
fully charged EnergyCaches.
Design
Flexibility
Available
in six colors, users can arrange SolarCap Light Emitting Tiles in
any imaginable shape or space to achieve a variety of desired effects
for residential or commercial applications in high-traffic or isolated
areas. They can be easily installed just like a standard brick or
tile on horizontal or vertical surfaces.
Applications
Residential:
Patios, Driveways, Walkways, Pool Decks, Stairways, Fountains, Lawns,
Landscaping
Commercial:
Plazas, Shopping Malls, Roadways, Airports, Crosswalks, Sidewalks,
Medians
